Abstract

This paper presents a review of advanced optimization methods for solar energy systems, with emphasis on photovoltaic (PV) performance under real operating
conditions. The analysis covers data-driven, multi-objective, geometric, and IoT-based optimization approaches. Particular attention is given to thermodynamic optimization, specifically entropy generation minimization (EGM), as a method for reducing irreversibilities and improving efficiency. The study identifies temperature as a dominant factor influencing PV performance and highlights a key research gap: the lack of integrated models combining climatic, geometric, and thermodynamic parameters. Future research directions focus on developing hybrid, climate-inclusive optimization frameworks for enhanced PV system performance.
