Abstract
Personal earnings from work to great extent determine the level of living standard, poverty and social exclusion in the society. There are several theoretically elaborated factors of wage determination, the most prominent being labour productivity and workers’ bargaining power. The impact of intra-regional labour mobility on wages in the Western Balkans has so far received little scientific attention, partly because it was considered less relevant compared to the traditional and well-documented emigration patterns from the region. The aim of this paper is to assess the factors of wage determination in the Western Balkans including the intra-regional labour mobility. The results confirm the orthodox theory assumptions showing a significant positive impact of labour productivity and total employment, while no clear evidence can be discerned regarding the number of issued work permits. The results bring useful policy implications for the future regional cooperation in the domain of the intra-regional labour mobility.
