Abstract

Passive vehicle safety systems aim to increase drivers' safety in the case of a car accident. Safety belts and protective helmets play a significant role in reducing the severity of injuries in traffic accidents. During a collision, the speed of the vehicle and the driver drops significantly, resulting in the appearance of enormous forces that affect the driver's body. Observed from the safety aspect, the most dangerous situation is when the driver's total kinetic energy is transformed into energy for deformations of his body, such as the chest and head deformities.
In this paper the results of a conducted research in the Republic of Macedonia on the use of safety belts by drivers / passengers in vehicles, will be presented, as well as the use of protective helmets by motorcyclists on motorcycles.
Key words: safety systems, airbags, safety belts, helmets.
