Abstract

Transition countries face many problems in their international economic relations. The deficit in the international trade in merchandise and services as the major part of their balance of payment deficit, is a reflection of their international position, practically.
During the past twenty years, the value of world service trade, according to world merchandise trade and to world trade as a whole shows rapid growth. At the same time the scope of the international tourism shows a similar trend.
The Republic of Macedonia registers international tourist arrivals and outflows, as well as other countries. Having in mind, that tourism is a major part of international service trade, its analysis is the main basis for undertaking measures in the frame of macedonian tourism policy.
The main purpose of this paper is to discover the current trends in macedonian tourism, and to suggest activities that should be taken towards improving the actual situation.
