Abstract

In this paper, we give a modern solution for the fire protection of the energy
transformers (BT1-110/6,3 kV, BT2-110/35/6,3 kV and AT1-110/13,8 kV) in Power Plant
“Oslomej”. This new solution employs a linear heat detector cable and completely replaces
the old solution that for a long time was not functional. The old solution used quartz ampoules
as sensors, air signal installation and a hydro-pneumatic main valve. This solution has shown
itself to be problematic, especially in climatic conditions with low winter temperatures,
because condensation, corrosion and the loss of pressurized air have developed in the
pneumatic installation.
The new solution incorporates a modern detector installation with a linear heat
detector cable and the appropriate fire protection valve. In Macedonia this is the first such
solution for fire protection - here applied to energy transformers.
In this paper, our positive experience with the application of this new solution with linear heat
detector cable is presented, beginning from the idea for replacing the previous-old detector
system with ampoules, through the design project, installation, testing and system start-up.
