Abstract

Introducing ECTS in the system of higher education in the country is significant benefit, which is a result of the desire for education quality and the tendency for getting close to the EU standards in all fields. Bologna process only confirms that. Bologna process as a totality, contenting all formal and informal documents, which are its results, enables and gives clear directions to proper development of higher education on European level. The wish for uniformity and compatibility of education systems among European countries, possibility for mobility of teaching staff and students, and functioning of the European common market of knowledge are basic postulates which should be followed. Republic of Macedonia, with its tendencies for joining European family is obligated to accept all the criteria in all fields, which are important for its closing at first place, and than for its complete membership of the European family.
Introducing ECTS, implementation of the regulative for quality assurance, evaluation and accreditation of higher education, will reach the wanted goal.
The experiences and recommendations have to be respected, the help from countries which are faced with all this challenges of introducing ECTS must be asked for.
In the higher education domain, in the field of tourism and hospitality, first steps are taken in this direction. An attention should be paid on introducing ECTS, because ECTS is a science. In this direction, a lot of help is given by different meetings, exchanging ideas and experiences, and the most concrete support is given by Tempus Phare projects, and projects, which will treat these issues in the future.
Whole situation depends a lot on the quality of higher education improvement.
No doubt, third class education leads to third class economy, and first class education leads to first class economy.
