Soil pathogens Pythium debarianum and Rhizoctonia solani present a big problem in intensive agricultural production, including vegetable cultures and tobacco, especially in production of seedlings. Nowadays, in the era of integral and ecological protection of plants for reduction of negative effects of applied chemicals, the importance of biological control is constantly increasing. Thus, the aim of the investigation was to check the effectiveness of Trifender WP in control of tobacco seedlings from soil pathogens. The paper presents the results of investigations on this biological product based on Trichoderma asperellu. Investigations carried out in the course of 2010 in Biological Laboratory of Tobacco Institute-Prilep included five variants with various rates of the product and a check variant. Trifender WP showed high level of tobacco seedling protection compared to the check, especially when applied in a rate of 3 and 4 kg/ha. The investigation confirmed the possibility of application of biological products in the control of soil pathogens that cause the damping-off disease on tobacco seedlings.
