Abstract

Estimation of the characteristics of different varieties and lines and the possibilities of introducing the best series of characteristics. In a three year investigation, three semi-oriental varieties and three perspective lines of tobacco were included. Investigations were performed at the Scientific Tobacco Institute – Prilep, with a standard methodology.A part of the results was estimated statistically and physical characteristic were researched using internationally accepted methods. Start of flowering in varieties ranges from 51 to 79 days and the end is 60-90 days. A ratio green – dry tobacco with 14% humidity ranges from 6022g:1 kg to 6973 g: 1 kg, and the yield from 1972 kg/ha to 2822 kg/ha. The highest average price per 1 kg was obtained with a variety O. Zlatovrv, and a control ( O. 9-18/2 ) had the lowest. The same varieties have the highest ( the lowest) gross income per hectare. All varieties and lines have physical characteristics typical for this tobacco type. The results show a convincing dominance of the variety O. Zlatovrv and a line Maja –(6 than the other varieties in the trial.
