There are 12 insurance companies operating in Kosovo, which offer non-life insurance and three insurance companies that offer life insurance. The manner of distribution of insurance in Kosovo is done by agents who are known in the literature as dependent agents and independent agents. Also, the insurance market is mainly developed in compulsory insurance, which in Kosovo is defined by law. The topic we address specifies the type of insurance distribution currently offered by insurance companies, the negative and positive impact of this mode of distribution. Obstacles they present to market development, especially to voluntary insurance products. Following the current introduction of insurance distribution channels in Kosovo, we have also compared insurance distribution channels in developed countries and countries in the region. Through this paper we have drawn some conclusions which we consider should be applied in the insurance market in Kosovo.
