Abstract
The fast development of countries in the Anglosphere, particularly in the United States of America, after World War II, instigated an enormous export of terminology in all languages worldwide. The French language is not an exception, as a large number of Anglicisms has entered French as well. The objective of the research work "Lexical Anglicisms in French from 1945 to 2005" was to highlight the issue of Anglicization and Americanization of the French language by studying lexical Anglicisms in the period after World War II, i.e., from 1945 to 2005. The paper at hand analyses the presence of English lexical borrowings in the French language in six domains: The Humanities and Social Sciences; Science and Technology; Arts; Everyday Life, Sports and Leisure Activities, and Miscellaneous. The paper also dwells on the interventions of France and Quebec with respect to these borrowings. On the basis of the graphemic, phonetic and semantic analysis of the borrowings, the research is present in some insignificant graphemic (6,58%) and phonetic (10,43%) adaptations as well as a moderate tendency towards polysemy (12,91%) of certain Anglicisms in the French language. As to the recommendations on the treatment of the English borrowings issued by the Commission d'enrichissement de la langue française (Journal Officiel de la République française) in France (24,01%) and by Office québécois de la langue française (Grand dictionnaire terminologique) in Canada (26,07%), the research shows only some moderate interventions on the part of both countries. Thus, the Anglo-American influence over the French society and culture has been confirmed.
