Abstract

Increase of yield is the main goal of breeders in creation of new varieties. As a quantitative trait, the yield is determined by many genes. For genetic analysis of its inheritance, diallel crossings among five different tobacco genotypes were made in 2010 and 2011, by which 10 crosses of F1 and F2 generations were obtained. Field trial with parents, F1 and F2 hybrids was set up in Tobacco Institute in 2012 in randomized block design with four replicates. Usual cultural practices were applied during the growing season. The aim of investigations was to improve our knowledge on inheritance of this major trait and to give directions in the selection of new more productive genotypes of tobacco. The most common mode was intermediate inheritance, but heterosis could be also observed. In both generations, the additive genetic component had higher values than the dominant one, which indicates that major part of genetic variance belongs to the additive gene action. Three parental genotypes were characterized by good general combining abilities (GCA). The analysis showed best specific combining abilities (SCA) in crossings where one of the parents had poor GCA. Very soon, plants with higher yield and stability can be obtained from these genotypes.
