Abstract

The paper focuses on the analysis of the Macedonian translations of two English private
security terms by the students of the Faculty of Security in Skopje. To this end, the authors
designed a questionnaire with English sentences containing the selected terms that were to
be translated into Macedonian. The questionnaire was distributed to two groups of students:
(a) students who have attended lectures in English language but have not attended lectures
in System of Private Security, and (b) students who have attended lectures in both subjects.
The authors expected that the students with knowledge of both subjects would provide
more accurate answers in choosing the Macedonian lexical equivalents. Besides determining
students’ knowledge of the meanings of the selected terms, the research findings will also
help the authors to reassess and tailor the syllabi in the respective subjects in order to better
meet students’ needs.
