Abstract

The content of copper, lead, cadmium, zinc, manganese and iron was determined in our investigations of tobacco grown in the regions of Bitola and Makedonski Brod. Tobacco samples were burned according to the method of wet burning with nitric and perchloric acid and measurements were made on atomic absorption spectrometer VARIAN SPECTRAAA.
The content of investigated elements in tobacco ranged as follows:
- Bitola: Cu (7.76 - 36.34 ), Pb (0.75 -11.25 ), Cd (0.21 - 1.25 ), Zn (35,97 - 172.24), Mn (50.77 - 573.65) and Fe( 318.75 -1928.31) in mg/kg.
-Makedonski brod: Cu (6.97-36.79), Pb (2.75-7.81),Cd (0.29-1.28),Zn (33.12-69.19), Mn (61.81-188.65), Fe (228.08-1599.33) in mg/kg.
Based on the investigations, it can be stated that heavy metals content in tobacco raw produced in the regions of Bitola and Makedonski Brod, with small exceptions, is ranging in referent limits for this crop. According to the results obtained, tobacco grown in this regions is ecologically pure and safe both for domestic consumption and for exports.
