Abstract

The fungicides effect on development of Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae (Breda de Haan) Tucker in tobacco leaf tissue was investigated in the phytopathology lab of Tobacco Institute-Prilep. Two trials were made with tobacco leaves from the upper belt, with previously determined total area and than inoculated. Inoculation was made on the main nerve, with a fragment of pure fungus culture. Inoculated leaves were placed with their basal side in a plate with 50 ml suspension prepared from the fungicides and incubated at room temperature. Fungicides with different active ingredients and different modes of action were included in investigation (Antracol WP, Acrobat MZ, Ridomil gold, Ridozeb, Galben M, Verita, Mikal flash, Winer WP, Armetil 50WP and Melody combi) and they were applied in suggested rates. Inoculated leaves placed in distilled water were used as a check variant.
The aim of investigation was to study fungicides effectiveness in the control of this pathogen by inoculation of green tobacco leaves. Effectiveness was estimated according to the occurrence of necrosis on leaf surface. In the check and also in variant with Antracol WP and Galben M, necrosis covered over 1/3 ≠ 2/3 of the total leaf area, which indicates that neither of these chemicals is efficient in control of the pathogen. With Verita and Mikal flash very low necrosis was reported and with the other six chemicals no necrosis appeared on leaf surface. Results of investigation showed that these chemicals are highly effective in the control of P. parasitica var. nicotianae, the causing agent of black shank disease on tobacco. They can also find wider application in mass production of tobacco in field conditions, when infestation with this pathogen occurs
