Abstract

Based on the three-year investigations of some systemic fungicides in protection of tobacco from the pathogen Phytophthora parasitica var. nicotianae, the following statements might be drawn:
The fungus P. parasitica var. nicotianae appears more frequently in rainy years and on the areas where irrigation of tobacco is applied.
Depending on the climate conditions and the way of tobacco growing, intensity of the disease can be lower and higher.
In conditions of our investigations, the intensity of the disease attack varied, which resulted in various effectiveness of the fungicides investigated.
The best effectiveness in protection of tobacco from this pathogen in all years of investigations was obtained by chemicals Ridomil MZ (66.10; 41.37 and 48.12%) and Ridomil G (62.30; 33.67 and 54.26%).
The other fungicides (SandofanZ, Galben M and Cimozin S) were not effective in protection of tobacco from this fungus.
Application of chemicals based on metalaxyl, added in irrigation water, might be recommended as a possible practical measure for reducing the loss of tobacco caused by the pathogen P. parasitica var. nicotianae.
