This book is the result of the joint efforts of hospitality and tourism academicians of eleven countries in Central and Eastern Europe – all of them members of La Fondation pour la Formation Hôtelière based in Switzerland, which for more than twenty years has supported the development and the evolution of hospitality and tourism education in thirty nine educational institutions across Central and Eastern Europe. The book analyses hospitality and tourism development in various countries in the period of transition (1990-2015). Its main advantage is that the research is conducted by native hospitality and tourism researchers and specialists from each country. Professor Maria Vodenska gained a Master’s degree in Geography of Tourism in 1974 from Sofia University, Bulgaria, and a PhD in 1978 from the Moscow Academy of Sciences, Russia. She has worked in the Geography of Tourism Department at Sofia University since 1979, and has written over 100 research papers and books mainly in Bulgarian and English. Her scientific fields of research include tourism theory, history and policy; tourism development; sustainable tourism development, mainly tourism impacts; tourism research methods; and tourism intermediary sector operations. She currently teaches courses in Introduction to Tourism, Tourism Research Methods, the Tourism Intermediary Sector, Event Management and Tourism Impacts.
