Our daily teaching practice shows that there are some weaknesses in the students’ written expression, especially regarding the writing of an essay. Therefore, the aim of the paper is to show that the introduction of the five paragraph essay in the teaching practice is a base for improvement of the students’ written expression, in a large extent. The research has qualitative paradigm (analysis of content) and quantitative one and descriptive design. The sample consists of 50 essays of students that study on the Faculty of Education in Bitola, and they are analyzed according the elements of the five paragraph essay. The methods used for processing the data, and for drawing scientifically based conclusions are analysis and synthesis. The results of the analysis are more than satisfying and they show that the introduction of the five paragraph essay in the teaching practice is justified because its structure gives elementary directions for developing the basic skills for writing, and this guarantees success in other various forms of writing.
